Kerala’s Education Minister V. Shivankutty announced that from this year, students will be awarded grace marks for cultivating reading habits as part of school assessments. Students with a strong reading habit will receive 10 extra marks. The public education director has been tasked with implementing this initiative, with guidelines for grace marks to be developed soon.
To improve library efficiency, schools will need to ensure libraries are well-maintained and active. A teacher with a strong reading habit will be appointed to manage the library under the principal’s supervision. The minister emphasized the importance of daily newspaper reading for students’ development, stating it contributes positively to their future.
