Kerala Becomes India’s First Fully Digitally Literate State: Official Declaration on August 21

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first fully digitally literate state in India. The successful completion of the ambitious ‘Digi Kerala – Total Digital Literacy Mission’ paved the way for this remarkable achievement. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will officially announce the accomplishment in Thiruvananthapuram on August 21. With this, Kerala not only retains its reputation as the first fully literate state in the country but also earns the title of being the first state with complete digital literacy.

As part of the initiative, a massive digital literacy survey was conducted covering over 83 lakh households (83,45,879), identifying 1.5 crore-plus individuals (1,50,82,536). Among them, 21,88,398 people were selected as learners, of which 99.98% (21,87,966) successfully completed training. Furthermore, 21,87,667 learners (99.98%) passed the final evaluation, officially becoming digitally literate. The curriculum focused on smartphone usage, internet navigation, and accessing government e-services. Remarkably, the learners also included 15,223 senior citizens above the age of 90, showcasing the inclusive nature of the mission.
