School Children to Receive 4 Kg of Rice for Onam: Minister V. Sivankutty

In celebration of Onam, all students benefiting from the school mid-day meal scheme will receive 4 kilograms of rice each, announced Minister for General Education and Labour, V. Sivankutty.

The distribution will benefit 24,77,337 students from pre-primary to Class 8 across Kerala.

The rice will be supplied from the existing stock held by the Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco), which has been authorized by the government to manage the distribution. Supplyco will be responsible for delivering the rice directly to the schools.

To facilitate this, the government has approved an additional payment of 50 paise per kilogram on top of the current transportation cost.

In case of low stock in any district, instructions have been given to source rice from depots in nearby districts to ensure smooth delivery. Any additional cost incurred due to inter-district transportation will be covered under the existing freight rate.

This initiative reflects the state’s commitment to supporting students and families during the festive season.
